I got accepted to an Internship program for next semester ! I've been stressing about it for a little while as I did not know whether I would be able to get in. This is great as it gives me a good edge when applying for my graduate school programs. At least that's what I've been told and I just hope that that's the case. So now I'm looking for internship programs and seem to have found a few that will be a good fit. I'm not willing to spend 100 hours of my time and over behind a desk entering data for example. And most places are only offering those kinds of internships. However I've found a few places that are hands on work with teenagers that I'm going to apply to. I've offered those places to take any training sessions that they might want me to take as a volunteer outside of my internship programs. Anything but data entry! Which is funny because I would probably get an amazing recommendation if I were to do the data entry as I'm usually the fastest office worker anyone has ever had. But yeah, seems as though one of the programs might be very excited to have me join them as they have never been able to get any Loyola students to work for them before. I have experience though, as I've worked at Devereaux before. It's basically wards of the state between 19 and 21 years old in an assisted living situation. So, like the lady was telling me, lots and lots of cursing, of I hate this, and of hostility sent the way of workers. Some cases where they get angry enough that the cops have to be called. Since they are 18 and up it's a situation where we cannot restrain them ourselves anymore, which is both cool and an issue if they get pissed off enough. But honestly I would love to spend my internship there. I'm waiting for a few other phone calls to see what other programs have to offer but it sounds as though this will be a perfect fit. Yay!
